Director: Jeff Davison, Music Director: Matt Horn,
Assistant Director: Kathy Brooks, Producer: Sandy Prokopp.

Roles:

Alfie (45-55): Baritone. Audition songs “Love Who You Love” (full song) for emotional range & “Man In The Mirror” (part 3).

The Storyteller: A simple man that we gotta love. He’s a hopeless romantic. He makes us laugh, cry and think. We must feel his words and songs. He’s conflicted about many things, including his sexuality. Believes in the fairy tale life by making believe everything has a happy ending.

Lily (45-60): Mezzo. Audition songs: “Tell Me Why” (full song) for emotional range &“Burden Of Life” (part 2). The ultimate older sister. Guilt ridden. A martyr when it comes to protecting Alfie. Angry, loving, unexposed and eventually accepting. She has sacrificed her own happiness due to her self proclaimed guardianship of Alfie.

Carney (also Oscar Wilde) (45-65): Baritone. Audition song: “Going Up” (part 1). Stubborn & traditional. In love with Lily. The male diva in Alfiie’s plays. Doesn’t understand Alfie’s lifestyle due to his own lack of exposure to the world.

Robbie (25-35): Tenor. Audition song: “The Streets Of Dublin”.
Epitomizes a proud, strong, good looking working class Irishman. Loves life and his city. Rough around the edges, but loves learning about culture.

Adele (20-30): Soprano. Audition Song: “Princess”.
The princess. A bright light. Innocent on the surface and knows what it’s like to be living a lie.

Father Kenny (over 25): If auditioning for Father Kenny only, no music audition required. Kind, understanding and compassionate. Loyal to his church. Will also have other parts.

Breton Beret (20-30): Audition song: “Our Father”. Good looking street thug with a dark side. Will also have other parts.

Peter/Carson/Policeman (20’s): Audition song: “Our Father”. Person to play multiple roles, a lot of stage time.

The Troupe:

The troupe members provide some comic relief while demonstrating the social values and acceptance of the time. They will all double or triple as Dubliners.

With the exception of Baldy, the audition song for The Troupe will be “Our Father”.

Miss Crowe (40 or over): Unmarried, slightly prudish. She tries to be understanding.

Mrs. Grace (50 or over): A very traditional Irish woman who’s not used to new ideas.

Mrs. Patrick (40): Soprano. The married woman who has a secret fling with Robbie.

Mrs. Curtain (40 or over): Tap dance experience or your willingness to learn is helpful. Mother of nine who is just excited to be out of the house.

Baldy (over 55) Baritone: Audition Song: “The Cuddles Mary Gave”.
Lovable widower who misses his wife tremendously. Lots of common sense.

Rasher Flynn (50 or over): Definitely past his prime, but still going strong.

Sully: (25 or up): Unemployed, not very ambitious.

Ernie: (30 or up): Thinks he’s the best actor in the troupe, but he isn't.

  • Character’s ages are general and flexible. In 1964 people looked older than they appeared. If you’re younger or older than the suggested age, don’t let it stop you from coming out.

  • Music cuts are available at the theatre and on our website (see above). Audition songs for each character are listed at the end of each character's description.

  • Scripts are available as a pdf file. Contact Kathy Brooks at
    rosehip@wowway.com.

  • Please bring all rehearsal conflicts on audition night.
We will have a read through and costume fitting on June 18. Rehearsals will begin August 11 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. After September 8 rehearsals will be Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

  • This show is performed with a Dublin accent. Accents are encouraged at auditions, but not necessary. There will be a brief part of the audition where you’ll be taught a short phrase in a “true” Dublin accent that you’ll be asked to repeat back.

  • We may be holding a short tap audition for people interested in Mrs. Curtain.

  • Please no infants or toddlers at auditions. This can be very distracting to others auditioning.
